Eating with Braces
After your initial appointment, your teeth may be tender and so you will naturally want to eat soft foods. Once the tenderness and aches fade away after a few days, you still have to take care when eating, as braces aren't as strong as your teeth! Braces may not seem so food friendly at first, but with a little preparation you can devour most food to your hearts content.
Some initial food ideas: Soft foods such as soups, eggs, spaghetti, mashed potato, smoothies, yoghurt (and small amounts of jelly and ice cream) etc.
Ideas for making food friendlier for braces: Cut into small pieces and carefully eat any foods that you need to bite into, such as harder fruits and veges like apples, pears, carrots or celery. Cut any tough pieces of meat into small pieces first too. Blenders can make life a breeze for eating a range of foods, while keeping all the nutritional value of the food.
Foods to avoid: Sticky, crunchy and hard foods...
